“911, What’s your emergency?” the operator said. This was my first time ever actually calling 911 in real life and it was quite surreal. “Hi, My name is Megan Fizer. Um, this isn’t really an emergency per se but I seem to have gotten lost in Pine Grove Furnace State Park.” After some silence the operator replies, “Well that does seem to be a problem ma’am. I’m going to forward you to the State Park Ranger’s line, ok?” I definitely never thought you could get forwarded by 911 but it turns … [Read more...] about On Momming & Hiking

The Giant Piano in the Room
“Um, do you notice anything different?” my mom asked me incredulously. At this point, my mom and dad are staring at me like I’m an idiot. It’s not like it was the first time I’d seen that look… nor was it the last. It was Christmas Eve 1998 and I had just gotten home from my grandparents. Sometimes You Need a Visit From Q
The other day I was feeling a bit mopey. Adult decisions and changes can be a bit overwhelming! Now take that and add some pregnancy hormones, and some days my brain just seems to simultaneously stall and go into overdrive at the same time. Its a Q episode so of course it was going to be good. The episode … [Read more...] about Sometimes You Need a Visit From Q
Graphs & Laughs
I’m a total wreck of a person right now. Pregnancy hormones, leaving my home of the last 5 years, goodbyes, processing the events of my life, excitement about the future, kicking myself still for things I cannot change, missing people, knowing how it feels to miss people and how many people I will be missing soon, being proud of everything I’ve built and scared for it to slip away, trying to run a business and trying to pack up everything. I’m basically between laughing and crying fits at all … [Read more...] about Graphs & Laughs
When Hope Sucks
Sometimes, hope sucks. Sometimes it feels like a trick that your heart is playing on you. It feels like a “nana-nana-boo-boo” when your head is telling you to accept impending fate. When destiny is in front of you, hope sings songs of other outcomes and other possibilities that can never be. It often makes accepting the path you must walk down even more bitter. Hope comes to try and ease inevitability but all it does is make the truth harder to swallow. Hope feels like a rock in your stomach. … [Read more...] about When Hope Sucks
